The market for lightweight and heat-dissipating materials, and the demand for automobiles, electricity, and electronics will be used as a stepping stone to grow in size

Although there are some differences depending on the flow of the economy, the automobile industry and the electricity and electronics industry are still the foundations of Korea's manufacturing industry.

Therefore, related fields have also grown together while keeping pace with the development of these industries. In particular, in the case of the material field, research and development on new materials are continuing as demands for lightening continue.

In response, the Tech Forum held a seminar on "resin/additive/material/parts technology and market trends to realize high-heat dissipation and high-heat resistance performance" at the Korea Technology Center on the 30th.

Dr. Yang Chul-min of KIST, who was the presenter, gave a lecture under the theme of "Technology development and application cases and commercialization trends of high-performance polymer composite heat dissipation new materials."

Dr. Yang said, "Until 2014, the lightweight/high-heat-dissipating material market was worth 6 trillion won, but the market will expand to 8 trillion won in 2018," and added, "This is because demand in the automobile, electric and electronic industries has increased, so manufacturing and application technologies should be secured in preparation for the rapid growth of the market."

Resins for heat-dissipating polymer composite materials typically include PPS, LCP, PA, and PC, and heat-dissipating products are used in smartphones, tablet PCs, laptops, TVs, LED lights, various inverters, and car headlamps in daily life.

Among the main uses of heat-dissipating materials for carbon materials, LED lighting heat-dissipating structures are made of aluminum and occupy more than 40% of the weight of lighting. As the heat dissipation effect increases, the life of the LED chip increases, and as the high power increases, the weight of the heat sink increases, making it difficult to install and maintain it, increasing demand for functional plastics to reduce weight and cost. Accordingly, the industry is continuing to develop thermally conductive carbon-polymer composite materials and replace them with plastic.

Dr. Yang pointed out, "In order for these heat-dissipating polymers to be commercialized, problems such as wear of injection molding machines and molds, increased viscosity of composite materials, cooling solidification of molds, and lack of differentiation technology must be solved."

It was suggested that the abrasion problem of injection molding machine and mold reduces the abrasion problem in highly fluid crystalline resin, and that the application processability and thinning formation can be improved through special additive and composition research.

As for cooling solidification of molds, the injection speed should be adjusted faster in the case of materials with high thermal conductivity compared to existing materials, and the absence of differentiation technology should be defined as adding various functions other than heat dissipation. 출처 : 경량·고방열 소재 시장, 자동차, 전기·전자 수요 발판삼아 몸집 키운다 (kidd.co.kr)
